61°Wing.The international top gun for the pilots of the future
The 61st Wing is a unit of the Air Force. It depends on the Schools Command / 3rd Air Region of Bari and is based at the Galatina Airport. The School makes use of three Flight Groups and is organized according to the order structure typical of a Flock which provides for the support of all the technical, logistical, administrative and health components necessary for an optimal use of human and material resources. The three Flight Groups are: 212º Flight Group.It provides "pre-operational" training (Phase IV) of military pilots suitable for aerotactic lines and carries out its task on the new Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master aircraft. 213º Flight Group. It has the task of obtaining the Military Pilot License (phase III) for the young students and carries out its activity using the Aermacchi MB-339 aircraft. 214th Flight Group. Carries out phase II of flight training; provides ground preparation activities for those attending all flight courses; trains flight instructors for use on Air Force jet aircraft. In addition to the aforementioned activities, the 61st Wing is assigned the role of air defense in response to the threats posed by aircraft and assets operating at low speed (Slow Movers).
